Making Thanet a cleaner place to live and work

Report fly tipping

Please note there are over 800 privately owned alleys in Thanet.  The council is not responsible for the cleaning or maintenance of private land or unadopted alleyways, the private owner is responsible.

Fly-tipping is the illegal disposal of controlled waste. It can vary in scale significantly from a single bin bag of waste to large quantities of waste dumped from trucks.

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence, we can deal with the offence with a Fixed Penalty Notice, if prosecuted in court it can lead to an unlimited fine and up to five years imprisonment.

The removal of illegally dumped waste or fly-tipped rubbish is a major draw on our resources.  Most illegally dumped waste is actually domestic waste put out on a wrong day, offenders have been, are, and will be prosecuted.

Private land -We may be able to help either trace the owner or clean it occasionally, however, this cannot be guaranteed and the work will not be a priority.
