We will not collect the following:

  • fridges and freezers containing food or rubbish
  • hardcore, builders rubble, cement, bricks, concrete, paving slabs, plasterboard or other building material
  • garden waste
  • engine oil
  • car tyres, batteries or any car parts
  • exceptionally heavy items such as pianos; cast iron baths; electric chairs
  • waste arising from a trade or business activity
  • hazardous waste such as asbestos and pesticides.

All waste must be reasonably contained. We will not shovel or bag rubbish.

Dry cell batteries, used engines oil, paint and household cooking oil should be taken to a KCC Recycling Centre (tip).

This service is not available to landlords. Landlords would need to contact a registered trade waste carrier to dispose of bulk waste items.

Dumping furniture or other waste on open land, in alleyways or by litter bins is illegal.

Other ways to get rid of your bulky items

  • Donate – if it is in good condition and useable, contact one of many local charity shops or second-hand shops in the area. Donations should be made during opening times and leaving bags or unwanted items outside a Charity shop is still fly-tipping and this is not acceptable behaviour
  • Freegle
  • Recycle – take the item to a KCC Recycling Centre (tip).
  • Pay a local registered waste carrier to remove it. It is your responsibility to make sure that the company employed is properly registered with the local Environment Agency. Ask the question and obtain a receipt, it’s your proof that the waste was disposed of legally.
