Turning the Tide – A major report from the Housing & Finance Institute

The Housing & Finance Institute (The HFI), a not-for-profit organisation, works as a hub to increase the speed and number of new homes that are built across the UK. They also encourage councils and businesses to work together to build more homes and promote new ways of financing and delivering the new homes that the UK needs.

The HFI has produced a report focussing on Britain’s seaside towns that are turning the tide on housing deprivation.  One of the towns featured in the report is Cliftonville, Margate.

The report positively focuses on action that Thanet Council has been taking to tackle poor quality housing and anti-social behaviour, and to bring back empty properties into use, including:

  • Creating housing market renewal areas
  • Creating a Selective Licensing Scheme
  • Low/No interest loans to bring back empty properties into use
  • Incentives and promotion of good practice to landlords
