Second phase of consultation on Parking in Thanet begins with district-wide ‘roadshow’

Thanet’s residents and local businesses are invited to participate in the second phase of public engagement on parking in the district. From Monday 22 July to Saturday 29 July a series of drop-in sessions will be hosted in the area’s towns and villages, while an online consultation will remain open until Sunday 24 August.

The drop-in events which will run at various times of the day, in a range of different locations, are open to everyone who is interested in learning more about the proposed parking strategy. It’s an opportunity to ask questions and get help with completing the survey, if needed.

The online survey which should only take 15 minutes to complete is an opportunity for people to indicate their support for the proposals in the Thanet Parking Strategy. It addresses how the council might approach a range of parking related matters including on and off street parking, residents’ parking permits, provision for electric vehicles as well the inclusion of active and sustainable travel.

The overall aim is for the council to set out an updated parking strategy that addresses the needs of the local community as well as visitors to the area. The result will be a refreshed approach to parking which looks at the experiences of drivers as well as understanding how active travel e.g. walking or cycling, can be accommodated in the future.

Cllr Kristian Bright, Thanet District Council’s Cabinet member for Parking said: “Having a comprehensive approach to parking across the district will allow us to improve parking in Thanet for residents, businesses and visitors. We want to be sure that we’re offering the right kind of parking, in the right places and that people using our parking services have a positive experience.

“The information gathered in the earlier phase has helped to steer the strategy we’re now putting forward. This second consultation looks specifically at the strategy and seeks views on whether people support our proposed approach.

“We want to hear from as many people as possible so that we can be confident that the plans we’re putting forward reflect Thanet’s parking needs. I would strongly encourage everyone, whether or not you drive a car, to get involved.”
